Educational Scholarships

Less than half of students completing formal primary education at Shree Nepal Matri Griha Primary School go on to higher education when they leave. This is because their parents or carers cannot afford the costs associated with higher education. Instead children often go to work to provide further income for their families.

At Nepal Matri Griha we provide two types of educational scholarships to children who are about to enter secondary education. The scholarships provide financial, material and one-to one-support to children who have the skills and desire to continue their studies but whose parents are unable to financially support them. We also run an outreach programme which distributes educational resources and materials to children in rural, economically marginalised communities.

Thus Nepal Matri Griha reaches out to these children and provides them with support, so that they can educate themselves and we can help give them their basic rights.

Complete Educational Scholarship

WHAT: This is a comprehensive package offered to those children in greatest need. Under this scholarship a student’s school fees, healthcare, accommodation fee, clothing, food and educational aids (such as uniform, books, stationary) is provided by Nepal Matri Griha. This enables the child to receive secondary schooling in an environment that will enable them to thrive.

HOW: Where possible, the child is kept with their parents, single parent, responsible relatives (in form of paternal or maternal grandparents, uncles, aunts etc) or foster parents in cases of orphans and those abandoned. Since most of the care takers also come from economically weak backgrounds, they cannot meet the additional costs of raising the child from their income. Thus we cover all expenses for the child to ensure that their education is not a financial burden to their family.

MONITORING: Our team regularly monitor the progress of the child. Home and school visits are made to ensure that the child is receiving a good level of care and education and that the funds and resources provided are not being misused.

Partial Educational Scholarship

WHAT: This is a scholarship awarded to students whose parents cannot afford to pay for their secondary, educational needs. Nepal Matri Griha provides additional financial support and healthcare to these children on a needs-based basis.

HOW: In our work at Shree Nepal Matri Griha Primary School we have found that there are a number of hardworking families who wish to ensure their child has a complete education but who are financially unable to support their child’s secondary education. Nepal Matri Griha pays for the child’s schooling fees and provides further support such as healthcare and materials provision when required.

MONITORING: Our team regularly monitor the child’s progress with home and school visits and assess if the childs needs are being met and whether they need additional support.

Outreach Programme

WHAT: Under this scheme, children are provided with the necessary educational aides and materials that they may find difficult to obtain. They are also provided with a basic health and sanitation kit.

There is a huge shortage of educational infrastructure in Nepal, specifically in remote villages and towns.  Children in economically marginalised regions may find it difficult to buy basic equipment and materials required in school such as books, stationary and a uniform.

HOW: A team visits these areas based on local agencies or Village Developmental Committee requisitions. There the children are distributed with the learning aid materials sufficient enough for one academic year. They are also provided with health kits consisting of toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, vitamin supplements etc.
